Empire Justice is a statewide, multi‐issue, multi‐strategy non‐profit law firm focused on changing the “systems” within which poor and low-income families live. The Disability Attorney will provide direct representation to claimants appealing denials of disability benefits by the Social Security Administration at the administrative level, and possibly district court level.


Education requirements

Admission to the New York St.ate Bar or law graduate or attorney admitted in another state who is eligible for practice under a legal services practice order required.

The ideal candidate shall have 1 to 8 years experience, demonstrated commitment to public interest law, experience with administrative hearings, experience working with people with disabilities, excellent negotiation skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and adept at managing multiple priorities, and strong leadership skills. Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required. Please note applicants must be willing to make a three year commitment. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the organization’s salary scale.
