Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) is a 49-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality legal counsel in civil matters where basic human needs are at stake including: eviction and foreclosure prevention, domestic violence, disability, children’s law and advocacy, elder law, healthcare, consumer fraud and more. Our services support more than 580,000 poor and low-income families and individuals who cannot afford an attorney in our seven county service area. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, we work to ensure that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services in the lower and mid-Hudson Valley (Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan), LSHV is proud to have handled more than 14,000 cases impacting more than 32,500 people last year.
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) has an immediate opening in our Yonkers office for a full time staff attorney to work on housing matters. A fifty percent component of the work for this position will be devoted to systemic advocacy affecting multiple low- income tenants, as part of the multi-housing unit. Advocacy goals in the multi-housing unit include prevention of loss of affordable units, enforcement of habitability rights in multi-family buildings, and issues of general application, such as rent setting practices. The attorney will also serve low-income individuals and families with matters including eviction, unlawful lock-outs and habitability issues.
