The Family Court Division of the NYC Law Department is seeking a Deputy Director of Training to assist the Director with the legal training program for the delinquency attorneys in the five boroughs of the NYC Family Court. The training program includes enhancing the professional development of the attorneys, refreshing the knowledge and expertise of the experienced attorneys, and developing leadership skills in supervisors.

The Deputy Director will have primary responsibility for the creation and implementation of an advanced Trial Advocacy Program for Senior and Major Case attorneys. The Deputy Director will assist the Director in conducting a comprehensive review of each program which will be used to improve the training for the next iteration. The Deputy will also develop and teach advanced courses. He/she will maintain the training portion of the Divisions web page.

The Deputy Director will work with the Director and Division managers to assess training needs through transcript review, court observations, attorney input and through working with borough training coordinators.  The Deputy Director will assist the Director of Training in selecting attorneys from the Division to attend trainings and conferences offered locally and across the country as well as in recruiting speakers from outside organizations and agencies to bring relevant presentations to our Division. He/she may be called upon to respond to urgent issues that emerge in day to day practice and will assist Family Court Administration with legislative reviews, sharing observations and addressing training needs as they arise with new legislative proposals.

Applicants must be admitted and in good standing in New York and have substantial experience in either delinquency practice or criminal law. Advanced research and writing skills as well as expert litigation abilities and the ability to impart this knowledge through teaching courses are essential. Demonstrated experience in editing, public speaking and teaching are preferred. The position will require citywide travel to present trainings and conduct courtroom observations.
